1st Communion
Last Friday night sweet T had her First Communion. It was delayed, of course, due to COVID and I was looking forward to her having a special night where she was the focus. Mass was lovely, the kids were just so so excited and sweet. She was blessed that with her two Godmothers, my parents, her great aunt and uncle, and our new roommate could attend. After mass we came back to our driveway and sat in a mostly socially distant circle and ate delicious cupcakes and enjoyed ourselves. T opened gifts and was lucky to receive three crosses that used to belong to her Great Grandmother Kay and Great Grandmother Lorraine.
Also, these things happened.
My family came early and we were visiting as T was getting ready and we were cleaning up from dinner. Our new roommate came upstairs and pulled S into the other room and in hushed tones they had a conversation. Not necessary. This night was about T, not her. But obviously she wouldn’t respect that. Apparently 10 minutes before we left for church she needed to once again tell S that she wasn’t moving to a townhome. She looked a long time to find the one she has and its going to be really tough for us to find one with 3000 square feet.
After mass I was eager to 1) take off my mask and get out of church 2) take some pictures with T and her special people 3) get home. That did all happen but our roommate’s sister had some urgent questions about what was happening at our house because of course she is not speaking to our roommate and in no way wanted to get stuck making small talk with her.
AS. IF.
The second we got home our new roommate high tailed it to our basement to put her pajamas on and turn on murder. She wasn’t even interested in T opening her gift in front of her - instead choosing to holler at her before bed “DID YOU GET YOUR PRESENT?” You’d know. If you were upstairs with us.
Side note - because I think its funny and got buried in the crazy. Apparently the annoying priest from my home town is now the priest at our neighborhood church. So shortly after we are all installed/crammed into our assigned pew with our hot masks on and he comes out to say mass and I felt the heads turn and the stares of my Mom, Dad and Sister on my right. I look over and only see their big eyes. The best.
