Snapped.

Last Saturday was a beautiful day. T had the neighbor girl over and they were in the pool laughing and giggling like 8 year olds should. I was on the deck reading/lifeguarding and enjoying a day where nothing HAD to get done.

Then our new roommate came outside. The girls were being playful with her and she wasn’t in to it.. so she started in on them.

I can’t believe you got your 1st Communion yesterday and now you’re talking like this.

Did you forget where the garbage bag is?

There are wrappers in the yard.

You need to pick up your wrappers.

There is one over here.

There is one over there.

Times 1000. I could feel myself getting more mad but I really didn’t want to leave and have the kids just at her mercy. I thought she would stop. Also the kids didn’t have any wrapped snacks so whatever wrapper was down there had been down there for a few days. It wasn’t an urgent yell at the kid having fun situation. It went on long enough that T was starting to look bugged and also confused saying “Where even is I? I can’t see it” And the response was something like

If you can’t even pick up after yourself maybe you shouldn’t be having friends over and playing.

That is when I snapped. No. Nope. No Ma’am.

I am her parent.

Let her have fun if she is having fun.

Stop harrassing her for no reason.

Don’t go out of your way to embarrass her while she is playing with her friend.

And stop F’ing complaining about everything and if there is a problem you can fix just fix it.

But I only said the last thing.

And then I picked up the wrapper and went back to reading/lifeguarding but also rage texting a lovely friend.
